Your challenge is to create a vehicle that can move on land or by air using the power of air. You may use scissors, pencil and rulers to design it but they can not be a part of the vehicle. You may only use any or all of the following in your vehicle:

The Northern BC Regional Science Fair is looking for a science related logo/design for our t-shirts!

The winner of the contest will receive a $250 Staples Gift Card  and a t-shirt with the winning design on it!

Guidelines:

- Your design will be science related

- Your design will include the words:

2012 Northern BC Regional Science Fair.

- Your design will have no more than three colors

- Your design will be no larger than 8 1/2” x 11”

We are excited to announce that online registration for participants and judges will be available March 1, 2011 at https://secure.ysf-fsj.ca/sfiab/northernbritishcolumbia/.

The 2011 Northern BC Regional Science Fair is being held in Fort St. John this year, at the North Peace Secondary School.  The date of this year’s fair is Tuesday, April 12, 2011.  The registration deadline for entering students is Thursday, March 17, 2011.  Please schedule your school fair to be done before Spring Break.  Schools also need to confirm their intent to register students by Tuesday, February 22, 2011.

TEACHERS, PLEASE READ THE UPDATED RULES ON ETHICS

A complete registration package will be sent to schools.  Please complete the form (faxed to school today, December 6, 2010) and return by fax, email or phone call so that the package can be sent directly to the name listed as a school contact.  A package will NOT be sent unless a contact name is received.

The number of students each school is permitted to send will be included in the registration package.  It will be based on your school’s grade 4-12 population and it should be similar to the number of students your school was able to send in previous years, but there may be some changes.  The fee will be $15.00 per student.

Our group from Northern BC returned from the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Winnipeg last week with 5 awards in hand.

Congratulations to:

Kimmie Gulevich – Bronze medal ($300) in Senior Earth and Environmental division, and Engineers without Borders Award (trip to Ottawa in January for a conference, which includes a significant student element, worth $1500)

Jacquie Gulevich – Honorable Mention ($100) in Intermediate Health Science

Dylan Kassian – Bronze Medal ($300) in Junior Earth and Environmental Science

Colson Fellers – Honorable mention ($100) in Junior Earth and Environmental Science

Todd Aalhus also attended and although he did not win an award, he too was a great ambassador for our region.

Congratulations to all the students and to all of you who are involved in and support the local science fairs. Without you, these students don’t have the opportunity to achieve these results. Thank you all!
